Kathmandu— The government of Nepal expressed deep sorrow over the death of six members, including renowned climber Nirmal Purja 'Nimsdai', in a tragic avalanche near Pakistan's Broad Peak. The incident occurred on Thursday when the expedition was en route to Camp-III from Camp-II. Five Nepali climbers and one foreign climber were confirmed dead, while search efforts for other missing members continue.

Government Response

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press statement expressing condolences and acknowledging the irreparable loss to Nepal's mountaineering sector. The ministry highlighted that rescue operations have been intensified by both Pakistani authorities and Nepali teams since reports emerged about the missing expedition members in an avalanche. Among those confirmed dead, the bodies of Pur Bahadur Gurung 'Yukta' and Gyalu Sherpa were recovered, while searches for others are ongoing.

International Collaboration

The Embassy of Pakistan is facilitating efforts to bring the mortal remains of climbers back to Nepal. The expedition included 10 individuals in total, with four foreign climbers from Oman, Pakistan, China, and the United States joining the Nepali team.
