Kathmandu— On Friday, opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) protested against alleged police excesses and theft of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The protest took place amid rain as MPs carried placards and demanded a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the July 20 incident where students were allegedly subjected to excessive force.

Financial Fraud Allegations

Congress MP KC Venugopal moved an Adjournment Motion notice in the Lok Sabha, alleging massive financial fraud and embezzlement of public donations at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. He stated that there is a need to discuss shocking revelations of theft and siphoning off cash and valuable jewelry donated by millions of citizens.

Police Excesses Against Students

Venugopal criticized the government's silence on the issue, stating that if they have any sincerity towards students, Home Minister Amit Shah should resign or at least apologize to the students. He accused the RSS of controlling the government and demanded accountability for the use of pellet guns against student protesters.

Monsoon Session Disrupted

The ongoing monsoon session has been largely disrupted over the past two weeks due to opposition protests. Despite this, the Lok Sabha passed the 'Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026' without discussion amid protests from opposition members.
