Kathmandu— China achieved a successful debut at the third International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) in Jeddah on Saturday, securing one gold and three silver medals. The four-member high school team from Beijing ranked among the top participating nations during the eight-day event, which brought together students from 19 different countries to compete in theoretical and experimental examinations.

Competitive Success In Jeddah

The competition tested participants through rigorous exams covering specialized subjects such as nuclear physics, radiation protection, and nuclear fuel. The Chinese delegation’s performance was highlighted by gold medalist Liu Siqi, a student from Beijing No. 80 High School’s Wangjing Campus, and silver medalists Wang Yuanfu, Sun Rongze, and Zhang Yuxuan.

Talal Alrashidi, a representative for the organizing committee, welcomed China’s participation in the event, noting that the students delivered an outstanding performance and demonstrated the positive spirit of Chinese youth.

Fostering Future Scientific Interest

The International Nuclear Science Olympiad was launched in 2024 with support from the International Atomic Energy Agency. As the world’s first youth Olympiad dedicated to nuclear science, the program aims to stimulate interest in the field among young people and promote international scientific exchange.

Wang Peng, head of the Chinese delegation and president of the China Atomic Energy Press, stated that the goal is to continue strengthening the popularization of nuclear science to encourage more young people to participate in the field. Gold medalist Liu Siqi added that competing against talented peers worldwide has strengthened her determination to study hard and scale new heights in science.

The event concluded in Jeddah, marking a significant milestone for China’s entry into the international nuclear science competition circuit.
