Kathmandu— Nepal is bracing for continued monsoon activity, as the Meteorological Forecasting Division has forecast heavy rainfall in hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces. Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in most hilly regions and some parts of the Tarai region throughout the day, with a possibility of storms developing in the Tarai belt of Koshi Province and areas within Madhes Province.
Monsoon Activity Intensifies
The current weather patterns are driven by an active monsoon wind sweeping across Nepal. A low-pressure belt associated with the monsoon is positioned near its average range in the east, but slightly north of average in the west, or close to Nepal itself. This positioning is currently causing rainfall particularly in the western parts of the country.
Regional Rainfall Predictions
While generally cloudy conditions are expected nationwide, mountainous areas may experience light to moderate rainfall and snowfall alongside thunder and lightning. The forecast specifically highlights the potential for moderate rainfall with thunderstorms in several places within Madhes Province later tonight, mirroring similar conditions anticipated across Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division continues to monitor the monsoon’s progress and will provide updated forecasts as weather patterns evolve.
