Nepal Telecom Expands 4G Network to Remote Sinja Valley

Kathmandu— Nepal Telecom has initiated 4G service in Sinja, a historically significant area within Jumla district known as the origin of the Nepali language. The expansion, which began today with the installation of a new tower in Guthijyula bazaar, aims to improve communication access for residents of Kankasundari Rural Municipality and aligns with the government’s focus on extending telecom services to remote regions and tourist areas.

Sinja Valley Connectivity

The newly installed tower will provide 4G coverage to wards 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8 of Kankasundari Rural Municipality. Paras Pujara, chief of Nepal Telecom Jumla office, stated that the tower is powered by a solar battery system. Sinja holds cultural importance as the birthplace of the Nepali (Khas) language, making improved connectivity particularly significant for preserving and promoting linguistic heritage.

National Expansion Strategy

The launch in Sinja is part of a broader initiative to expand 4G coverage throughout Nepal, with plans to extend service to the Badimalika temple area in Bajura district within the week. A feasibility study is also underway to bring 4G connectivity to the base camp of Mount Everest. This effort builds on previous expansions to high-altitude locations including Lhan in Dolpa and Olanchungola in Taplejung, both situated at elevations exceeding 3,400 meters.

Investment in Rural Infrastructure

Nepal Telecom is undertaking a significant investment of six billion rupees to enhance telecom services and expand coverage in rural areas. The company has initiated the process of installing 1,600 new mobile towers and constructing supporting infrastructure to improve both access and service quality across the country. This commitment reflects a strategic focus on bridging the digital divide and ensuring equitable access to communication technologies.

Nepal Telecom’s ongoing expansion efforts are expected to continue improving connectivity in remote regions of Nepal, fostering economic development and cultural preservation.
