Kathmandu— Recent heavy rains have caused widespread disruption to transportation networks across several districts in Nepal, with landslides completely obstructing major highways and forcing the suspension of nighttime traffic in affected areas. Roads in Kavre, Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Rukum Paschim, Lamjung, Ilam, Nuwakot, and Makawanpur are all impacted by rain-induced disasters, according to Nepal Police Headquarters. The disruptions began on Monday and continue to affect travel throughout the region.
Road Closures Reported in Eastern Nepal
The Mechi Highway in Ilam Municipality was fully blocked near Rajduwali due to a significant mudslide, prompting authorities to advise travelers to seek alternative routes. Similarly, sections of the Araniko Highway remain impassable following landslides in the Kodari and Liping areas. These closures are significantly impacting connectivity in eastern Nepal.
Central Routes Severely Affected
Landslides have also blocked key road sections in central Nepal, including Pasang Lhyamu Road and the Trishuli-Mailung-Syaphrubensi route. The Jajarkot-Dolpa road section is completely obstructed near Rijegard in Rukum Paschim district after a landslide at Aathbiskot Municipality-6. These closures are hindering movement between key districts.
Landslides Block Roads in Lamjung and Beyond
In Lamjung, the Bensisahar-Manag road is entirely blocked by a landslide near Rambazaar in Marsyangdhi Rural Municipality-4. The Nepal Police have confirmed that these disruptions are widespread and are actively monitoring the situation to facilitate clearance efforts where possible.
Authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage and work towards clearing roadways, but significant delays remain for travelers across the affected districts.
