Israeli Airstrike on Gaza Shelter Kills One, Amid Ceasefire Violations

Kathmandu— An Israeli air strike struck a tent sheltering displaced Palestinians in central Gaza on Monday, resulting in at least one fatality and multiple injuries. The attack occurred near al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, continuing hostilities despite a United States-brokered ceasefire intended to end Israel’s military operations in the territory. As of this report, the total Palestinian death toll since October 2023 has reached 73,422, with an additional 174,401 wounded, and 1,288 killed since the implementation of the October 2025 ceasefire.

Recent Escalation of Hostilities

The strike on Monday follows a series of attacks over the weekend that claimed the lives of three Palestinians, including a four-year-old child, in areas such as Khan Younis and az-Zawayda. One man wounded in an attack on Khan Younis succumbed to his injuries Sunday, while another who was injured during a strike on a Gaza Port cafe last week died Monday. These incidents underscore the continued violence despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Israeli Military Claims Targeting of Hamas Militants

The Israeli army stated it targeted two individuals in the Deir al-Balah area Sunday night, identifying one as Muhammad Abdul Nasser Jaber Abu Asad, allegedly a member of Hamas’s military wing who participated in the October 7 attack on Israel. According to the army, both individuals were actively working to rebuild Hamas's capabilities and plan operations against Israeli forces, characterizing their actions as a “systematic violation of the ceasefire”.

The situation remains volatile despite international efforts to secure a lasting peace and disarm Hamas, with ongoing concerns about adherence to the existing ceasefire agreement.
