Bhotekoshi Flash Flood: Over 987 Dead, Thousands Rescued

Kathmandu— A flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa, Nepal, has resulted in a death toll of 987 as of Tuesday morning. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) reported that over 12,000 people have been rescued from the disaster, while nearly 4,000 remain unaccounted for. Among those missing are members of various security forces including the Nepal Police, Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, Customs Office, and Immigration Office.

Death Toll Distribution

The highest number of bodies found was 321 in Chitwan. Other significant numbers include 216 dead bodies recovered from Nawalparasi East, 170 from Nawalparasi West, 95 from Nuwakot, 65 from Gorkha, 55 from Dhading, 38 from Tanahun, and 27 from Rasuwa. The NDRRMA continues to coordinate the search efforts for missing individuals.

Rescue Operations

The rescue operations have been extensive with over 168 injured people discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment. Additionally, more than 21,000 security personnel have been deployed in the region to aid search and rescue efforts.
