Chengdu(china) 7 July.2018(ABC NEWS_ Sichuan provincial government has initiated 10 days media seminar on nepal-china relation, in Chegndu China. In this seminar 15 journalist from nepal of differrent media house including ABC News Television participating.

On behalf of Sichuan Provincial Department of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs, I wish to extend my warmest welcome to all of you to join this seminar, and I would also like to express my congratulation to the opening of this seminar.
Linked by mountains and rivers, China and Nepal are as close as brothers and sisters. Sichuan and Nepal enjoy deep friendship. 2000 years ago, the silk, the tea and the well salt were transported from Sichuan to Nepal and other South Asian countries via the Silk Road. Sichuan highly values the relations with Nepal which is an important nation in South Asia. The recent years saw frequent high-level mutual visits and close people-to-people exchange between Sichuan and Nepal. Solid progress has been made in the areas of economy, trade, agriculture, culture and education. In the past three years, Sichuan has invited Nepali personnel from media, agriculture, health care, and disaster control and prevention sectors to participate in relevant seminars, which is beneficial to enhance mutual understanding and boost cooperation.
Located in the west of China, Sichuan is an important traffic corridor connecting East and West, bridging Central, South, and Southeast Asia. Sichuan has long been renowned as the Land of Abundance due to its pleasant climate and fertile land. Sichuan covers an area of 486,000 square kilometers, the 5th in the whole nation, with 83 million population. Sichuan is a large province of powerful economy, huge population, rich natural resources and up-to-date science and technology.
In 2017, the GDP of Sichuan reached 3.69 trillion yuan, up by 8.1 percent, with this number the 6th in the whole country. The major economic index, such as economic aggregate, investment and consumption, stands at one fifth of the total among 12 provinces of the western China. It is one of the most vibrant regions in China with fast growth. Sichuan enjoys rich tourism and culture resources. It has five world natural and cultural heritages, such as Jiuzhaigou Valley and Huanglong, and it is also the hometown to giant pandas. Sichuan has sound foundation in science and technology, and has 109 higher education institutions. Sichuan values opening up. It has established economy and trade engagement with 231 countries and regions. 17 foreign countries have set up their consulates in Sichuan. The Joint Statement between The People’s Republic of China and Nepal during the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli’s official visit to China pointed out that the Chinese side agreed to give serious study on the proposal of the Government of Nepal to establish a Consulate General in Chengdu, to which we are full of expectations. 331 of Global 500 corporations have settled in Sichuan. Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan, is the fourth largest aviation hub in China. Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport has opened altogether 106 international or regional routes, including the daily direct flight from Chengdu to Kathmandu. Tianfu International Airport, the second airport in Sichuan, is under construction.
The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli paid a successful official visit to China not long ago, and reached consensus with President Xi Jinping on further deepening China-Nepal exchanges and cooperation. Sichuan will fully implement the outcomes reached by leaders of China and Nepal, and continue to strengthen the practical exchanges and cooperation with Nepal.
Co-hosted by Sichuan Provincial Department of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs and Chengdu Radio and Television Station, this seminar includes professional courses, discussions and interactions, field trips, and etc. I hope that all of you could enhance your understanding to Sichuan’s development in economy, society, and media through this seminar.
