Nepal’s House of Representatives to Convene with Ministerial Question Period

ABC NEWS
२ भदौ २०८३, मंगलबार   १० : ४५   बजे

Kathmandu— Nepal’s House of Representatives (HoR) will convene at 11:00am local time today to address a range of parliamentary business. The meeting will include responses from four government ministers regarding inquiries related to their respective portfolios, as well as the presentation of the seventh annual report of the Tharu Commission by Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam on behalf of Prime Minister Balendra Shah. Additionally, proposals concerning passport amendments, reconciliation measures, and international agreements are slated for consideration.

Ministerial Responses Scheduled

Four ministers – representing Foreign Affairs, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, and Agriculture, Forest and Environment – will answer questions from lawmakers during the session. The queries will focus on issues pertinent to each ministry’s responsibilities, providing an opportunity for parliamentary scrutiny of government policies and actions.

Key Reports and Bills to be Presented

Minister Gautam is scheduled to present the seventh annual report of the Tharu Commission (fiscal year 2081-82) to the HoR. The commission’s report likely details its activities and findings related to the rights and welfare of the Tharu community in Nepal.

Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal will also introduce a proposal for consideration regarding the Passport (first amendment) Bill, 2083, while Minister Gautam will table both a proposal concerning the Reconciliation (second amendment) Bill, 2083, and an agreement related to the UN Agreement on Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction.

Committee Meetings Planned

In addition to the HoR session, five parliamentary committees are also scheduled to meet later today. These include the Agriculture and Natural Resource Committee, Infrastructure Development Committee, Legislation Management Committee, Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee, and the Federalism Enablement and National Concern Committee.

The House of Representatives is expected to continue its regular schedule of addressing legislative business and overseeing government activities following today’s session.
