Kathmandu— Search and rescue operations are being intensified in various hydropower projects (hydels) affected by the recent Bhotekoshi floods in Rasuwa district, Nepal. The Nepali Army (NA), along with international rescue teams from China, India, Korea, and others, has so far rescued 279 people from different hydel sites. The largest number of rescues was reported at the Upper Trishuli-I Hydropower Project, where 254 individuals were evacuated.

Joint Efforts in Rescue Operations

The Nepali Army has been working alongside rescue teams from various countries to locate and evacuate those stranded. A joint effort between the NA and Chinese rescue experts led to the rescue of two people from the Rasuwagadhi Hydel, while a team comprising personnel from the NA, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police is conducting search and rescue operations inside the tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-III A Hydropower Project in Nuwakot district. Additionally, a 90-member team is working with Nepali, Korean, and Chinese teams to clear and open entrances to tunnels at the Langtang and Chilime hydels.

Rescue Operations Across Multiple Sites

The NA has reported rescues from several other sites. Nine people were rescued from the Mailung Khola Hydropower Project, two from Upper Trishuli-III B hydel, three from the Trishuli Hydropower Project in Nuwakot district, four from a solar power project, and five from the Devighat Hydropower Project. A total of 31 security personnel are currently engaged in search and rescue efforts at the Upper Trishuli-III B hydel.

The Nepali Army continues to intensify its search and rescue operations as part of ongoing relief efforts following the devastating flash flood that wreaked havoc on August 26.
