Kathmandu— Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, prominent wrestlers, expressed disappointment over the acquittal of former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Monday. The women wrestlers who accused him of sexual harassment will appeal against his acquittal, asserting that they have not lost hope in their fight for justice.

Courageous Stand Against a Powerful Figure

The Rouse Avenue Court acquitted Brij Bhushan and Vinod Tomar on Monday in the case linked to allegations of sexual harassment made by women wrestlers. Phogat and Punia highlighted that it took significant courage for the women wrestlers to file an FIR against a powerful politician from the ruling party, who allegedly intimidated many girls into withdrawing their complaints.

Legal Battle Continues

Phogat and Punia expressed deep sadness over the court's verdict, stating that several female wrestlers remained firm in continuing the legal battle against Brij Bhushan. They alleged that the government and system had worked to protect the former WFI chief throughout the case.

The women complainants have instructed their lawyers to challenge the verdict, with an appeal set to be filed at the earliest.
