Kathmandu— Intense rainfall across Nepal is causing widespread road blockages and significant disruption to transportation networks. As of Wednesday morning, police reported traffic disruptions in Kavrepalanchok, Ilam, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Rukum Paschim, Sankhuwasabha, Lamjung, Mustang, Rolpa, and Chitwan due to landslides and flooding. Authorities have implemented nighttime restrictions on a key highway segment to mitigate risks, while several major routes remain completely impassable.

Highway Restrictions Implemented

To reduce the risk of flooding, vehicular traffic on the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebensi section of the Kavrepalanchok-Sindhuli BP highway is now restricted between 6:00 pm and 4:00 am daily. Traffic will only be permitted during daylight hours as a precautionary measure against further hazards.

Major Routes Severely Impacted

Several major highways are experiencing complete or partial blockages due to the adverse weather conditions. The Mechi Highway in Ilam is entirely blocked by mud, while landslides have obstructed traffic on both the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok and the Trishuli-Mailung-Safrubensi road in Rasuwa.

Landslides Widespread Across Western Nepal

Additional road closures have been reported in western regions of the country. The Jajarkot-Dolpa road in Rukum Paschim, along with the Bensisahar-Manang road in Lamjung, are currently impassable due to landslides. Similarly, the Beni-Jomsom road in Mustang and a section of the Prithvi Highway in Chitwan have been completely closed by landslide debris.

Police are advising travelers to stay informed about current road conditions and exercise caution due to the continued threat of landslides and flooding.
